another look at tin ceilings

There are bad ceiling tiles—you know, the cardboard-y acoustical kind that may or may not contain asbestos! And then there are beautiful ceiling tiles. With these tin ceilings you cannot go wrong. Especially if you own an older home, these are going to fit in perfectly. They also add some glam and formality that I hadn't really thought about. I had always seen tin ceilings as a little dated and dowdy and country. But these rooms prove they can be totally current and add some serious style to a space.

If you can't get your hands on a large enough supply of vintage pressed tin (and that could get very expensive anyway), the big guys—Home Depot and Lowe's—have a good selection of lightweight, easy-to-install lookalikes. You might even consider one of the embossed paintable wallpapers that have a pressed tin design. If it doesn't involve a professional installer, it's more than okay in my book. So what do you say? Yay or nay to pressed tin or lookalikes on the ceiling?

If I ever finish the other 4 walls in my rooms I'd love to tackle a ceiling treatment, these are stunning.

I like it Casey. Actually we installed the paper from Lowes years ago to hide an ugly bathroom ceiling and it still looks good. Now I'm wondering what the wall color is in that last image.

There are some great sources online too. I ordered samplles from this company a while back and they're beautiful. http://www.americantinceilings.com/
